Operation Education

About Dr. Karen White, Program Chair

Message from Dr. Karen White

Photo of Dr. Karen WhiteAs a physical therapist and concerned citizen, I have had the opportunity to meet many injured veterans — men and women who have made immense sacrifices to help protect our nation. I wanted to find a way to say thank you to them for all they have done.

As an institution of higher learning, the University of California, Riverside has the unique opportunity to provide the gift of an education. This gift can change lives, open doors, and provide opportunities for years to come.

Operation Education is a three-pronged program that provides financial, educational and social assistance to UC-eligible veterans and their spouses working towards earning a degree at UC Riverside. The program is entirely funded through private donations and receives no federal or state assistance. This is not a military scholarship, but rather an opportunity for wounded veterans to pursue their dreams of a college education.

The Inland Southern California region has historically shown strong support for veterans. These men and women — our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers — are an integral part of our community. We hope that you will join us in saying “thank you” to them by making a donation in support of the program.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Operation Education at UC Riverside.

Sincerely,

Dr. Karen White

About Dr. Karen White

Karen White PhD, PT, is the chair of the Operation Education program and is an adjunct lecturer for the UC Riverside Biomedical Program. She is perhaps better known on campus as the spouse of former UCR Chancellor Timothy P. White. She is also a professor at CSULB.

Prior to coming to California, she was founding director of the Operation Education Scholarship Program at the University of Idaho. The program was the first of kind in the nation and is the leading scholarship and assistance program for disabled military veterans pursuing an undergraduate degree. She has advocated for the Operation Education program around the nation.

Dr. White has a long-standing interest in people with disabilities; the special needs of such individuals, their adaptive responses to therapy and training, and the accommodations necessary to help them succeed in society.
